If you missed our comedy show this past Saturday, you probably were not planning on coming anyway because the place was packed with so many people I can't imagine who wasn't there....
It was another amazing, weird, funny night. David Rees, Sam Anderson and special guest, Adam Sternberg, kept the crowd laughing for exactly one hour. Keep any eye out for the next one!

Well tomorrow is the day. Our third annual print and Zine show. the show is half hung and looks totally different but just as amazing as the previous 2 years. We have some of the same artists who work has evolved over the past 3 years and some totally new artists who we are very excited to show! Dan made his yearly pilgrimage down to the mean streets of Brooklyn to pick up work. Take a look at his adventures and a sneak peak at hanging the show. See everyone tomorrow!

We do events at the gallery from time to time. they are always fun and usually a bit on the eclectic side. In the past month we have been fortunate to host a listening room style music event for Matt the Electrician organized by local845 and our second Comedy event organized by David Rees

Art inside the Park - install

After days and days of kalene varnishing all of the pieces and building braces for all the pieces to stand up in the park we were finally ready to load up the truck and bring the pieces over to the park for the install. the day was gray and overcast but luckily no rain. Once we got to the park we realized we had a bit of an obstacle in that the entire park was on a hill. Since our final pieces were made to go in the very flat jeff city dog park we weren't sure how they would work on the hill. but after a bit of organization and moving things around we ended up being very happy with the install. take a look at our final process picts and see for yourself. big thanks to the guys from the jefferson city parks department for helping us with everything and a huge thanks to Carla Steck and Michael DeFeo for having us out for the event!

Art inside the Park - day 1

We arrived in Kansas City airport and after a quick snack and to pick up our rental car and then drove 3 hours straight to Jeff City. After a bit of a nap and a dip in the hotel pool Dan went to the studio and worked untill late. lots of progress but not much time left.

Well this post is a little overdue, but what are you gonna do...

The opening of Dan's show was great! So many great people came out to check out the work and everyone that came through enjoyed the treats provided by Dan's awesome mom and our friends Dallas and Rose. Stephen Dickens took care of the music at the opening and played a great set that had some people peeking at his record selection to see where the magic was coming from. Also, some of Dan's best friends, Jim Darling and Eugene Good came out from Dallas and Milwaukee respectively, to help Dan put the finishing touches on his show and show their support and Bobby Collins, great friend and amazing DJ came out to show his support and rocked the after party with video and music until 3am the night of the opening. Overall we could not of asked for a better night. And the fact that Dan sold more than half of the work in the show was a big plus!

What an amazing Opening! First off we would like to give Jenifer Garcia a huge thank you for doing such a wonderful job curating and organizing this show. The We are Familia project is truly amazing and we are honored to be able to host this exhibition for the next 2 months. The opening was a work of art in itself, comprising of a chartered school bus bringing guests from NYC, a group Dia tour, and an amazingly catered family style barbecue from the fine people atGrotto for all to enjoy. And then there was the actual art which people could not stop talking about. From the amazing reincarnated wood furniture from Nightwood to the beautifully stylized interpretation of classic works by Chris Yormick the show is a beautiful selection some of the amazingly talented artists involved in the We are Familia project. Special thanks to Bettina for dealing with the tour and the food and Jeff Ashey for keeping the tunes going all night long! Again this show will be on display for 2 months so if you have not seen it make of point to come by the gallery to check out this one of a kind show!

A big thank you to everyone who came out, over and up for our OVER/UNDER opening and NEXT STEP fundraiser this weekend. The weather was fantastic and the day progressed from there. After some last minute touches and Jim and Tina's AWESOME window installation (a recycled wood plane crashing into an ocean of wood scraps spewing smoke clouds made out of paper airplanes being attacked by an octopus) and then one by one our friends started to arrive, they came from all over to check out the show and rock out at NEXT STEP. For those that made it out to NEXT STEP people were treated to an amazing roster of musicans and DJ's. El Jeffe started off the night and Jeff Bujak followed with a incredible keyboard and light performance that unfortunately was cut short due to some technical problems. DJ Bobby Collins quickly stepped in and unleashed an assualt of audio and video that left people deciding if they should watch or dance. Everyone finally decide to just dance and the crowd went wild for most of the night. DJ Wisdom finished off the amazing night and evreryone went home with smiles on their faces! This weekend was also the first official BEEP (Beacon East End Presents) weekend and the crowds at Zarah's Studio, Zuzu's coffee shop, Joes Irish Pub, and the Piggy Bank had a great time listening to live music all night.

OVER & UNDER Preview opening

Despite rain earlier in the day the skies cleared and we had great weather for the preview opening of one of our most anticipated ever, The OVER&UNDER Show featuring our the amazing Jim & Tina Darling . Even though the full opening isn't until next week, there was a steady stream of visitors, collectors and friends throughout the evening enjoying the work and the Miller Lite and Chardonnay ( thanks Bev!).

In case you can't make the full opening next week, or just want a sneak peak, here is a look at all the amazing work from this current show!

If you are in the NY are next week do your best to make it up for the full opening, the Darlings are working on an installation for the window a few more pieces and we will be holding it down till late in the morning at the Piggy bank with Bobby Collins and the rest of the Next Step & Beep Crew!

Wow, what a great opening! Saturday night exceeded even our expectations for the night. An amazing crowd of local and visiting artists, patrons, and friends showed up for the opening. Everyone was amazed by the work on the walls as well as the amazing dj set by Beacon resident/world traveler Knox Robinson and the special performance by the NYC based Mascott. Special thanks to Pearl, Raul and Melissa for all your help.

2nd annual Print and Zine Show - Brooklyn Run

This past Wednesday I took another trip down to Brooklyn to pick up work for our 2nd annual print and zine show. The day started off around 9am and i covered a lot of ground. However, unlike last year when I spent time in 3 out of the 5 boroughs. This trip I focused exclusively on Brooklyn.

I started off in Park Slope picking up some amazing prints from Wayne Pate at Good Shape Design.

After a tour of his beautiful home/office Wayne and I talked for a while about life, children and all things art and design. Wayne has some great insight on process and life... Maybe there will be a good shape interview in the future... Unfortunately the conversation went a little long and I ended up with a parking ticket, oh well, my fault.
NYC is like that...

After leaving Wayne, I headed over to Caroline Hwang's spot in Fort Greene. She was in a hurry so we didn't get to chat, but she did give me some amazing Prints and Zines for the show!

Next, staying in Fort Greene, I stopped by the amazing illustrator Fernanda Cohen's house/studio. I have known Fernanda for 3 or 4 years and have worked with her on numerous projects through SHERBERT, MTV and the gallery and in all that time we have never actually met. So it was nice to finally catch up and connect the dots.

After saying goodbye to Fernanda I made a quick stop at the Pratt Store for some supplies and since I was close I had to swing by Castros on Myrtle for a delicious Chiles Rellenos sandwich, so good! If you are ever over there I highly recommend one.

Next I headed over to Green Point to meet up with superstar designer Dave Heasty over at Triboro Design. He was in the middle of some top secret projects so I didn't get to see the studio, but I did manage to get a shot of the door to where the magic happens.

Next I was supposed to head into the depths of Bushwick to meet up with August Heffner but due to some scheduling conflicts we were unable to meet up. August will still have work in the show I just don't have anything else to report about our meet up.

I had a few more stops in Bushwick though and I met up with Imminent Disaster over at her new studio. In addition to the great prints she gave us for the show that she was finishing off when i got there, I got a sneak peak of the massive installation piece she is working on for the January "From the Streets of Brooklyn" Show that AD HOC is putting together at Think Space in LA. It is going to be an awesome installation!

After leaving her studio I went over to Factory Fresh to meet up with Ad of Skewville and pick up some work. Ad and Ali are always fun to talk with and always has great stories about art and life.

Over all the 2nd annual print and zine show Brooklyn Run was a huge success. I inched my way through the Thanksgiving traffic and headed back upstate...

Another Great Opening!

Our Saturday Night Opening of "Freakopolis" featuring new work by Andy Rementer was a huge success! For those that came out to the opening you got to see this amazing show in person and were treated to the amazing all record set of mostly early 30's jazz by Knox Robinson. For those who missed the opening you should definitely try and make it to the gallery to see the show in person, but if you can't below are some picts from the Saturday night and a view of the installation. We will be posting all the work online for sale very soon.

Wow! what an amazing experience!
Our 5 days in Maine were truly inspiring. Kalene and I would like to thank POP!TECH for giving us the opportunity to organize this event, Elizabeth and Andrew for having the faith in us and knowing it was going to be awesome, Jim, Tina and Will for being amazing artists and braving the elements day and night to both finish their amazing pieces and help us build the frames, and paint the piece above the storefront. And a special thanks to Nancy Rivers and our son Easton who came to Maine to hang out together and give us support. Here are pictures of the final pieces and where they were displayed during the closing night gala at the Owls Head Transportation Museum.
